  puce September 2011 - Galileo Services Position Paper : Satellite Navigation Applications realizing the Ambitions of EU2020
   

The position paper is consecutive to the European Parliament Resolution of 7 June 2011 on Transport applications of Global Navigation Satellite Systems, and coincides with the preparation of the future "Horizon 2020" programme for research and innovation.

Position Paper

This paper details how satellite navigation, positioning and timing applications can act to take up EU challenges and to reach EU2020 ambitions. It reiterates the necessity to make EU public funding accessible to GNSS applications Research and Development and states the budget required. It identifies the critical GNSS technologies, applications and services that will be boosted by EU public funding and provides a set of recommendations for the preparation of "Horizon 2020" in the GNSS R&D domain.

Status

Further to the initiative of Galileo Services and OREGIN, European Industry and Universities have taken the initiative to influence National and European Authorities by establishing a Manifesto, stressing the need to boost GNSS Research and Innovation in Europe.

The signed manifesto has been spread to more than 300 Key Decision Makers.

Major European Industry and University representatives rallied today for a luncheon in Brussels to stress their deep concerns with regard to the future of GNSS Research in Europe and to celebrate the launch of a Manifesto for "a More Committed Europe towards the Development of GNSS Applications".
